Fine Arts & Electives in Upper School

The first years of school set the stage for how children grow a positive relationship with school; this is especially true for gifted students.

VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS, SPORTS AND MORE

Our fine arts and specials are highly interactive and focus on safe risk-taking, creative thinking, teamwork and practical skill building.
Upper school students are increasingly self-focused, and the arts can provide an outlet for them to explore ideas and themes of personal significance. Fine Arts experiences can also speak directly to students’ social and emotional needs during these middle grade years. As a department, our goal is to provide offerings which honor student areas of passion and interest, while giving them the opportunity to interact with like-minded peers.

Standard offerings at ACE include theater, physical education, visual arts, debate, film, improv, band, cooking and computer science classes. Additional offerings allow our teachers to share areas of personal interest with their students, and therefore vary from semester to semester, based on what our staff chooses as their offerings.

FEATURED ELECTIVES

Theater

ACE Academy’s theater program builds self-confidence, promotes teamwork, and gives students memories that last a lifetime. Improvisation classes teach students flexible thinking and how to work collaboratively in a fun and supportive environment. Students can also enroll in Advanced Theater to perform two plays every school year; from classics like "The Mousetrap" to new works like "10 Ways to Survive Life In A Quarantine." For those who prefer being behind the scenes, our Theater Tech elective allows students to design for our live productions: sets, sound, costumes and more!

House Band

Our music program builds an inclusive, safe, and uber fun space to explore what it takes to create a band. We rehearse a variety of songs in various musical genres as well as write and create our own songs. Bring your own instrument, or use the ones we have at ACE. This is a fun, performance based class that musicians of all levels love! We will have opportunities to play for supportive and enthusiastic audiences on and off campus.

Model UN

Model United Nations is an authentic simulation of the UN General Assembly, UN Security Council, or other multilateral body, which introduces students to the world of diplomacy, negotiation, and decision making. The students, better known as “delegates,” debate current issues on the organization’s vast agenda. They prepare draft resolutions, plot strategy, negotiate with supporters and adversaries, resolve conflicts, and navigate the UN’s rules of procedure – all in the interest of resolving problems that affect the world.

FIRST LEGO League

ACE Academy participates in FIRST® LEGO® League, a global innovation program that offers students real-world problem solving experience through a guided robotics competition.

Our students learn engineering and coding in an engaging,
inclusive, and creative in-class environment where they work
collaboratively to solve an annual robotics challenge centered around a yearly theme.
